Maquia: When the Promised Flower Blooms - Movie Review
First of all, there are four good things about this movie. One of them is the good plotting in the movie that made me interested in the first place. They succeed in including a lot of plots that make viewers stay and watch to see what happens next. That is a great tactic that is difficult to earn for animation studios because if they fail to attract viewers to watch till the end, they eventually waste their time and effort in making animated movies. The second thing is that this movie used different voice actors for each character, which makes the movie seem more realistic than using the same voice actors for a couple of characters. The voice actors play the biggest role in an animated movie because if they are unmotivated, the movie will seem pale and lack energy. In this movie, Manaka Iwami, the voice actor for the protagonist, Maquia, in the movie did a great job in her role. What I mean is, she delivered the dialogue in the most energetic, intense, and emotional ways, which proves that this movie was voiced by a professional voice actor and not an immature one. Third, this movie has many things to offer, like beautiful scenery that was portrayed in the movie by the painter. Every scenery was illustrated beautifully and in detail.
This kind of detail in animated movies can create a more realistic environment. Viewers can also feel what it's like to be there and it helps viewers to understand more about the animation background, like what years they were in or what era they were in. For this movie, they were in the era of mediaeval Europe, where kings were rulers of the country and slavery was still intact. Besides that, this movie carries out the most valuable lessons. Maybe this movie is hard to understand for young people, but there are messages that this movie wanted to deliver to all viewers. The entire concept revolves around what mother's love looks like from their perspective, from the beginning of our lives to the end. 's love can never be replaced or be broken by anyone. It's really accurate since nowadays there are lots of cases where some people, or most newlyweds, send their parents away to a care center after they can't take care of them anymore, which is a sad truth about our world.
Other than that, there are a couple of bad things about this movie that make it hard to be well known to the public. Like I said before, this movie was too complicated to understand by some people. There might be some people who understand this movie quickly, but the majority of people took time to understand the whole plot of this movie and it is difficult to catch up. This movie is about this movie was rated to be PG-13 (Mature). Since this movie was made to show how a mother fights for her son to live a better life, it was supposed to be targeted at kids too. This is the kind of movie that parents need to show their kids to teach them to appreciate their parents, especially their mother, who gave birth to them, but since this movie was created to teach much older teens, this will have less impact on them. The last one is that this movie lasted 2 hours and 30 minutes, which is longer than the normal movie length of 1 hour and 50 minutes. This longer movie time will impact on viewers because some people enjoy shorter movies in between 1 hour and 2 hours.
This movie has the potential to hit the box office anytime soon, but there are many areas of improvement, like focusing on the story more than showing the not necessary scenes that throw away a lot of time. The last thing is that they could make the story plot more understandable for most people. In movie production, it is important to deliver a clear storyline to viewers.
